If you are new to electric drumming, working with a sound system can be intimidating. You can choose a speaker and amplifier to get started. An electric drum amp is certainly an important thing to have. Knowing how to amplify an electric drum is with the presence of an amp and other important equipment is important. Sometimes, you have to make two choices: get a new good drum or spend money for an amp. Well, you can spend money for them all but both may compromise the sound.
Know that you can have alternative means of amplification that will not cost you as much as quality amplifiers do. You just need to realize that there are various technologies right not waiting to be used by you.
Get Sound System that Match
Only Get Compatible Speakers
To amplify e-drums, you may need to research recommended speakers to match with your kit. Most drum set manufacturers are also making speakers and amplifiers. Purchased those specialized amplification types of equipment as possible as could. Those pieces of equipment will be optimized for your drum set but still there are many people use things from different manufacturers as long as your kit and the device is compatible with each other.
For you to get the right sound equipment, check the specification requirements. If you care to buy specialized amps and speaker, these will work well in amplifying low drum tones a lot better than those made from other manufacturers.
Go for Passive Speaker and Amp Combo
If the purpose of your drum kit is to use it for professional purposes, choosing passive speaker and amplifier combination is better. Passive speakers need an amplifier to create sound while amplifiers are small boxes with sound settings that bring the sound signal to the speakers. Speaker and amp combo is very much essential for pro drum kit use while giving better control over the sound with ease.
Choosing the best speaker and amp combo is just like choosing the best sound system, you need to check the amplification requirements first to make sure the compatibility. To minimize incompatibility problems, buy the combo from the same manufacturer as well.
Pick Powered Speaker
For amateur musicians, powered speakers can be the great option. Powered speakers already have a built-in amplifier so you don’t need to spend time and money in purchasing them individually. With powered speakers, there will only be less equipment set up and you just have to carry fewer cords in keeping the track. With powered speakers, you don’t have to tweak the amplifier settings as well. Good sound can still be created without too much twisting.
Position the Equipment Properly
When installing the sound system make sure to arrange the equipment in a position that installation can be done comfortably. If you are performing in stage install them there but if you are practicing in your space clean the area and place the instrument in a proper way before plugging in anything to it. To avoid sound interference, you can move your speaker side by side. Once all of the equipment is connected with cables, you can plug to anything you want to a power source.
Connect the Module Output Jack to your Speakers
On your drum set, find the output jack of the module. The module is considered to be the brain of a drum kit which allows you to alter the sound, make changes on the settings and even turn the kit on and off. Locate the drum module, look around the word “output” and connect the drum kit to the speaker. You can use at least ¼ long cables to enable the connection. Plug one end of the cable into the output jack of the drum and plug the other one into the input jack of the amp.
After plugging them in, get another cable and connect the amp output to the speaker input. In performing this installation, make sure you have plenty of slack on the cable.
Make a Sound Test
If you are done with the installation, test the sound. All of the volumes should be turned to zero. Plug the sound system components to a power source and make everything turned on. Raise the sound volume slowly and find the perfect sound level that matches your taste. In case you want to adjust the sound, don’t depend on the adjustments on your speakers alone. You can adjust the sound from your electronic drum kit or amplifier as well.
Enhancing the Sound
If you are done with the equipment purchase and installation, you can maintain the sound to much better sound creation. First, adjust the settings on your drum modules. Drum modules allow users to control the different tones that your drum kit is making. To improve the sound, you can alter the volume of the low and high notes. You can even change the timbre of the notes by changing the setting on the drum sets.
Consider different drum types to mimic a variety of other famous higher-end drums. If you are buying low-priced drum sets, some great and additional features may not be found. If you think you are still not satisfied with the sound your drum kit provides, try updating the module. If not, replace your module with a new one but in a higher quality version.
Some electronic drum kit brands have a mixing board to help drummers adjust the quality of the music they make. If you notice that your lower drumming notes sound dull or the mixer of your band runs out of input space, use a specialized sound mixer.
On the other hand, if you see that your lower drumming notes are flat and lifeless, adjust the bass and treble knobs of your amp.
